5 Tips On Removing That Unwanted Carpet
Stains
Carpets are one of the most important
furnishings that hold a house together.
Therefore, we need to maintain the look of this
particular item of soft furnishing as much as we
can. Carpets are known to get dirty especially
if there are small children in the home. Spills
and all sorts of stains seem like an ordinary
occurrence but learning the appropriate tips on
keeping your carpet clean through stain removal
is vital. Different stains require different
stain removal techniques. Each one requires a
different approach but there are a few common
steps that are mandatory in case a possible
stain is about to occur.
1. Stop the stain
In case tea or any other fluid has spill on your
carpet, you need to ensure that there is minimal
spread as much as possible. You can stop the
stain from getting out of control through the
use of paper towels; use as many as possible as
long as the last paper towel comes off dry. It
is also advisable to blot the stain from the
outside towards the inside. This sees to it that
the stain is stopped from further spreading. If
the fluid is lying on top of the carpet due to
slow absorption, scoop it off using a spoon. 2. Blot
While using the paper towel, it is advisable to
blot the area dry instead of rubbing it. By
blotting, you are getting rid of the fluid as
well as keeping the carpet safe. Rubbing is
always a bad technique as it wears out the
fibers of the carpet which might ruin that
particular spot permanently. 3. Use detergent
After you have got rid of the stain but still
can see the discoloration on your carpet, mix
1/4 teaspoonful of dishwasher detergent with a
full cup of water. Take caution not to use too
much detergent as it will be difficult to get
rid of the soap afterwards. A little bit of it
will clean off the stain and leave no soap
traces behind. After applying the soap solution,
you should let it sit for at least 5 minutes
depending on the type of stain. Rinse it off and
use paper towels to dry off the area. You can
use a heavy object like a flower vase to hold it
down and absorb all the water.|
4. Vacuum
After you have inspected and seen that the stain
is fully eliminated, vacuum the area thoroughly
for an even finish and to level the clean area
with the rest of the carpet. 5. Freshener
You can use a carpet freshener after cleaning
off the stain. This will eliminate any
indifferent smell that might have been brought
about by the stain source and give the home an
equal breeze. There are some stain removal detergents in the
market. In case you decide to use these, use it
on a small portion of the carpet preferably a
corner to see if it will discolor or have some
negative effect on the carpet. If nothing
happens, you can go ahead and use it on the rest
of the carpet. If the stain is food related,
scoop off the food before it dries off then
clean regularly. However, if it is a bubble gum
stain, use an ice cube to harden it the gently
scoop. It is easier this way than attempting to
remove it while gooey.
